Tunde Fafunwa

Managing Director & Board member

Tunde has more than 20 years senior management experience in the Telecommunications and Information Technology field in Nigeria, UK, US and the Philippines.  He has led startup and growth companies such as Bayan Telecommunications Philippines, as well as major initiatives in Fortune 100 companies such as Verizon Communications and other companies in the US, the UK and Nigeria.

Prior to becoming Managing Director of Kitskoo, Tunde was the Managing Director of Bayan Telecommunications, Philippines from 2004 – 2009.  He was accountable for P&L across an entire USD200 million/year enterprise, including responsibility for all aspects of marketing & sales, finance & admin, product & business development, management, customer care, network planning & engineering and operations of the entire 1,700 people organization.  He led the team to record double digit growth in Revenue, EBITDA and Operating Income while paying debt of over USD100 million, all from 100% internally generated funds. Tunde led the team that created a new product category, innovative customer service and collaborative regulatory approach. The company’s services were expanded from 200,000 landline customers to over 500,000 Fixed Line, Broadband and Mobile customers.

Tunde directed the regulatory strategy and approach, including industry-wide efforts on “setting a level playing field” for voice and data interconnection, consistent reporting of technical and customer information on data services and the use of VoIP.   He was also responsible for the team that delivered significant customer & profit growth of more than 20% per year in rural markets, including areas that were considered “non-economic”.

As Chairman, National Digital Transmission Network (NDTN) from 2000 – 2009, he ensured the cooperation of the consortium members in the more than 20 fold expansion and operation of the major alternative nationwide fiber backbone and access network.

Previously, he was Chief Operation Officer at Bayan Telecommunication, where he led all strategy, marketing, sales, product, customer care, network and operations. Tunde initiated a multi-phase turnaround of the company by replacing lost voice revenue with new Internet & data revenue and instituting a mission driven,  “open book”, team and performance based culture change. He reinvested interest in customer service and restored the quality management program. Data revenues were expanded by 100% and he established the first and only nationwide backbone data business in the Philippines.

Prior to Bayan, Tunde was appointed as Senior International Consultant at Verizon.   His key initiatives included, leading an integrated marketing, sales, product, network & operations team. Tunde co-designed and implemented a new multi-service integrated voice, data & IP architecture that covered 3,000 km of national and metropolitan area fiber, VSAT and International cable systems. Generated revenue growth of more than 30% and reduced incremental cost by more than 60%.

Previously, Tunde was Vice President, Marketing, for Bell Atlantic Plus (now Verizon) responsible for the integrated Full Service team, including designing, testing, launching and managing packages of Landline, Mobile, Paging, Video and Internet to over 2 million customers.   Successfully met and exceeded aggressive launch goals for marketing and sales, including a 4% advertising response rate.  Project Director for data and video alliance with Intel Corp.

Prior to Verizon, Tunde was the Manager for Network Services Connecticut Mutual Life (now Mass Mutual Financial Services) where he managed the technical & operations group that maintained and enhanced an 85 office, 4,000 workstation national network.  Developed and implemented a set of projects that met an aggressive schedule to replace 50% of the company’s multi-million dollar Headquarters network with no disruptions.

Tunde has held other position including, Chief Executive, Resourcery PLC, Nigeria (IT Services) 1983 – 1988 and Business & Technology Consultant, Belier Consultants, UK 1981 – 1983.
